How counselling can help

People come into counselling for a wide range of individual reasons.  That said, the initial impetus frequently concerns unhappiness from unwanted change, or from a lack of wished for change; it can also arise from a more obscure sense that things are not as they should be.

Counselling can help people towards new and creative perspectives on life situations which might previously have seemed impossible to resolve.  Moreover, the process of coming to terms with present experience can give opportunity for work on deeper personal issues if wished.

The counselling situation  provides a therapeutic space outside one’s ordinary life and relationships.  Within this therapeutic environment awareness and self-acceptance can develop, allowing loosening of inner knots and freeing movement towards integration and greater happiness.

My role as counsellor

As counsellor I am facilitative of your personal exploration, acting as a truthful mirror and compassionate, non-judgemental witness to your experience.  My practice is founded on faith in people’s innate capacity to find their own authentic paths towards healing and fulfilment.  Primarily, I see my role as one of providing an optimal context for awakening of self-healing capacities.  As a ‘traveling companion’ I can offer guidance in navigating and illuminating your experience.

Some examples of issues

n my view the personal experiences which bring people to counselling are rarely reducible to a simple label.  Whilst recognizing this, I feel it is helpful to offer some examples of the kinds of areas with which I work.  These include:

  • Bereavement and loss
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Emotional issues
  • Traumatic experience
  • Lack of meaning or purpose
  • Feeling stuck, or unfulfilled
  • Spiritual issues

The above is not a definitive list and if your primary concern is not included please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs.
